Born in Setúbal, Portugal.

1945

Studies Architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa. Abandons for political reasons.

1949

Lives and works in Paris, illustrating for the publishing industry.

1954-1959

Arrested by PIDE for oppositional activities.

1964-65

Lives and works in Aarhus, Denmark.

1965

Publishes Pintura Incómoda.

1969

First director and teacher at IADE.

1975

Publishes O Labirinto.

1976

Appointed Director-General for Cultural Activities at the Ministry of Culture.

1977

Publishes Almada e o Número and Imaginações da Imagem.
