Victor Palla (1922-2006) was a Portuguese designer, architect, photographer, publisher, author, and translator.

Timeline

1922

Born in Lisbon, Portugal.

1939

Enrollment at Escola de Belas Artes de Lisboa.

1942

Transfer to Escola de Belas Artes do Porto.

1945

Earns his degree in Architecture. Begins his 25-year architecture practice with Joaquim Bento d'Almeida.

1949-1951

Works with cast ceramics at SECLA, in Caldas da Rainha.

1950-1952

Coordinates and designs the magazines Vampiro Magazine and O Gato Preto.

1952

Attends the British Council course «Publishing and Book Production», in London.

1952

With José Cardoso Pires, he refounds Editorial Gleba with the launch of the paperback collection Os Livros das Três Abelhas, a venture that was his brainchild and for which he selected titles, designed covers and the overall identity, negotiated rights, and even made some translations.

1955

Launches, with Orlando da Costa, the publisher Círculo do Livro, which he co-directs and art directs.

1957

Fernando Namora launches the publisher Arcádia and asks Palla to design the entire enterprise. He takes care of everything from the overall identity and those of each collection to the book formats and covers.
